Youth in Nigeria have been urged to avoid illegal immigration and embrace the opportunities available within the country to avoid the issues associated with the “Japa Syndrome.” This call was made on Thursday in Yenagoa during the launch of the “Japa Youth Project: Voices of the Unheard,” initiated by the Dise Ogbise Foundation in collaboration with other sister organizations to address issues related to the illegal immigration of Nigerian youth.
The event highlighted the dangers of illegal immigration, including death, involvement in illegal drug peddling, promotion of human trafficking, and other vices that have destroyed many lives. Experts at the event warned youths against illegal immigration and encouraged them to take advantage of opportunities within Nigeria.
Prominent Bayelsans, including the immediate past Commissioner of Labour, Employment and Productivity, Bayelsa State, Collins Cocodia, Felix Omemu, Josephine Igodo mni, Dr. Marie Teibowei, and others, urged Nigerian youth to remain in the country and utilize available resources to achieve a good life.
One of the major highlights of the event was an awareness road walk to alert youths to the dangers of illegal immigration.
