How It All Began
Janine first met her husband, Ezenwa, in a Swiss club back in 2008. Despite initial hesitation, fate brought them together multiple times, leading to a relationship that blossomed into marriage in 2012. Their story of love defies stereotypes, as they embraced a life in Nigeria.
Embracing Nigeria
Initially, Janine had concerns about Nigeria, influenced by negative perceptions abroad. However, visiting the country revealed a different reality. “I realized there was a need to change the narrative,” she says. Her decision to share her experiences on social media was driven by the desire to showcase the beauty of Nigeria, particularly Igbo culture.
The Move to Nigeria
Janine and Ezenwa agreed that their children should grow up knowing their roots. In 2023, they relocated to Nigeria permanently. While some Swiss friends expressed concerns over security and healthcare, Janine was determined to let her children experience their heritage firsthand. “It’s important for them to know both cultures and be proud,” she explains.
Life in Isuofia
In Isuofia, Janine found a welcoming community. She planted a mango tree in her husband’s family compound, symbolizing her deepening roots in Nigerian soil. Janine also admires the strength of Umuada, an association of women married outside their hometowns, in upholding traditions.
A Love Story
Janine describes Ezenwa’s love as genuine and profound. “He would do anything for me,” she reflects. Their relationship is built on mutual respect and friendship, with a shared commitment to family and culture.
